About the Project

VaCiKa is a comprehensive database aiming to answer a seemingly simple question: Who performed when, where and what?

The Mission
Throughout the 20th century, private databases – maintained by agents, collectors, and enthusiasts – documented travelling performers and the venues that hosted them. Tragically, many of these archives were lost to war or simply disappeared over time. Despite their significance, museums and scholars continue to overlook entertainment and travelling artists, neglecting their vital role in cultural history.

In this private scientific initiative we are aiming to gather and organise what remains – to preserve theatre heritage with historical and scientific accuracy for future generations.
The Name
VaCiKa (Varieté – Circus – Kabarett) follows the early 20th-century European tradition of using acronyms to represent production companies and agencies. It does not exclude any other genre but honors the project's Central European roots.
